Menemen:A Classic!

Menemen: A Classic! 🍳 Eggs, chillies, and tomatoes — simple yet so satisfying.

I start by heating a tablespoon each of olive oil and butter, sautéing the chillies for about 5 minutes until they’re fragrant and soft. Then, in go the fresh diced tomatoes, cooking them down for at least 10 minutes (more in you are not in a rush) until they become a rich, saucy consistency. Finally, the eggs are cracked in, stirred gently until they’re just cooked but still soft and luscious.

You can make it fancy by adding cheese like a torn burrata or pieces of simit, but simple is always the best. I used Turkish sivri biber — some hot, some mild — and served it with my sourdough olive bread I shared in my stories last night.

Check out videos on my instagram post showing each step of the process — from softening the chillies to perfecting the eggs.

And of course, there’s a decade-long debate on whether onions belong in Menemen… but I’m definitely not going there! 😅
