Hi, I’m Burcu, a Turkish home cook living in London and the person behind wooptonight, which simply means “What’s on our plates tonight?”
It all started on Instagram, where I began sharing what I cooked for our family each day. Over time, those everyday plates grew into wooptonight, a place to collect and share the recipes and food stories behind them.
My cooking is rooted in the Turkish food I grew up with and the recipes passed down through my family, but it is also shaped by more than two decades of living in London, the cookbooks I love, our travels and whatever happens to be growing at our allotment.
I’m a home cook, not a professional chef, and that’s at the heart of wooptonight. I love recipes that are meant to be cooked, shared and adapted in real kitchens.
One very special full-circle moment came when my mother-in-law’s Zeytinyağlı Barbunya was featured by Yotam Ottolenghi, and I was invited to cook it with the team at the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen.
Ultimately, wooptonight is still about the question that started it all: what’s on our plates tonight?
