We had our family visiting us for Christmas this year. As our visitors are living in France we had two Christmas dinners this year. This one is the French one and was on Chritsmas eve. As we had the Turkey for Christmas dinner I decided to go with venison for Christmas eve. Had to phone of couple of buthers until I find the venison loin though.
We had Venison wellington with root vegetable and mustard mash. I used parsnips and celeriac on the mash and this was my first time cooking with venison and also first time making a wellington. I made the gravy from the tips part of the wellington recipe and it was a really good gravy. All turned out very well in the end considering it is the first time.
Next morning I came across the episode of the GBBO where they made wellington and I was proud to see that my wellington was much better than some of the wellingtons there.
I made Bûche de Noël as desert and followed this recipe from Guardian and it was lovely too.
